Co-funded by the European Commission
Goal: to promote literacy and emotional wellbeing for disadvantaged children’s and adolescents’ healthy growth by developing a model of an integrated intervention to enhance literacy and social-emotional skills relying on authentic contemporary
children’s and adolescents’ literature.
Objectives
1. increase the partner organisations’ capacity to support teachers in developing their students’ literacy and social-emotional skills;
2. develop and test an in-service teacher training course in blended learning format to prepare teachers for addressing students’ literacy and social-emotional learning needs;
3. develop a toolkit (OER) with good practice to inspire teachers to adopt effective strategies for developing their students’ literacy and social-emotional skills.
Target groups:
- 12 teacher educators trained how to deliver the teacher training programme (participants in the LTTA);
- 100 trained teachers highly skilled in developing literacy and social-emotional skills in the classroom while teaching various age groups and disciplines;
- 2500 students will improve their literacy and social-emotional skills as a result of participating in classroom activities that pursue these goals explicitly, in addition to discipline-related learning objectives;
- 4 schools will adopt school-wide practices to improve literacy and social-emotional skills in an integrated manner to support their students’ academic success and personal growth;
- 100 institutions and organisations will learn about the resources produced within the project and learn how to access them.
Types of activities: training curriculum development, testing the training, OER development (toolkit for teachers), transnational project meetings, joint staff training, multiplier events.
Main results:
GROWE will deliver three intellectual outputs:
IO1 - Curriculum of the training course. This training course addresses primary and secondary teachers in pre-service or in-service training. The course aims to develop the teachers’ professionals’ skills to address students’ literacy and social-emotional learning needs.
IO2 - Methodology for data collection to document the piloting of the curriculum. This intellectual output will allow us to study the effects of the training course on the trainee teachers and their students, based on which we will be able to revise and finalise IO1. The analysis of the collected data is available here.
IO3 - Toolkit (OER) including good practice to inspire teachers to adopt effective strategies for developing their students’ literacy and social-emotional skills. This OER will include strategies, illustrations/ descriptions of classroom practices (video materials included), students’ and teachers’ testimonials/ reflections on their experiences with social-emotional learning and literacy skills development using the strategies proposed in the project. The OER is meant to ensure sustainability, impact, and transferability of the project outputs, as well as act as a resource for future deliveries of the training course.
