Goal: integrated development of reading and writing skills with the aim of supporting students’ sustainable learning skills.

The primary target group of the project is students in technical and vocational schools and colleges. Autonomous learning of content area disciplines is almost impossible in the absence of well-developed literacy skills, and without an appropriate toolkit, the students have limited capacities to learn from written text. The secondary target group is teachers who teach technical disciplines, but also life science, mathematics social studies, The integrated approach to developing reading and writing skills while also learning the content of specific disciplines is meant to help the teachers to provide more effective support for their students to develop their content area literacy skills.

Activities: After a thorough analysis of the students’ and teachers’ needs and interests as concerns the types of texts they have to read and write in upper secondary education, the project team will propose a model for the integrated teaching of content area literacy, they will develop learning modules/ units which will be tested in the partner schools and the most successful experiences will be collected and widely disseminated among stakeholders Europe-wide, including among decision-makers in education.

In order to ensure the sustainability of the project outcomes, the partnership plans to transfer the best teaching practices to the field of pre-service teacher education and also to in-service teacher training.

Other activities: transnational project meetings, learning, and training activities, multiplying events/ dissemination.

The planned outcomes of the project are students’ improved literacy skills and teachers’ better mastery of integrated approaches to facilitating learning.
