Math lessons for critical thinking; author: Ariana-Stanca Văcăreţu

Math Lessons for Critical Thinking intends to offer secondary mathematics teachers suggestions for incorporating reading, writing, and discussion activities in the teaching of mathematics. Through four lesson scenarios and through examples of lesson/unit plans and assessment instruments, the author shares concrete ways in which using a variety of approaches can increase student participation and support learning in the mathematics classroom.

The material in this book is based on the author’s own extensive teaching experience; and also on her work as a trainer for the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research and for the Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking project in Romania. In the latter project, which was promoted by the International Reading Association and the Open Society Institute, thousands of teachers have worked together since 1997 to bring interactive and student-centered teaching methods into classrooms at all levels and in all subjects.

The book was published with the support of the Romanian RWCT Association. It is available in Romanian.
