Mentoring for the empowerment of disenfranchised youth
The project aims to empower disenfranchised youth to be able to fully, responsibly and effectively participate in society. Within the project, we will develop and test a structured mentoring program relying on the autobiographical approach to personal development to be provided for disenfranchised youth in high schools in Romania.
Donor: Open Society Institute - with contribution of the education support program of Budapest
Duration: 18 months (Sept 2011-Feb 2013)
Target groups:
- 20 disenfranchised high-school students in Romania (students who attend vocational schools, who get social benefits on account of their family background, or who entered highschool as a result of the affirmative actions instituted by the Ministry of Education).
- 10 mentors to deliver the mentoring program
Goal of the project:
- Empower disenfranchised youth to fully, responsibly and effectively participate in society.
Specific objectives:
- Support the personal development and self-directedness of at least 20 disenfranchised youth in Romania by providing an 8-month mentoring program;
- Develop, test and refine a structured mentoring program (including the delivery kit) relying on the autobiographical approach to personal development;
- Prepare the human resources to deliver the mentoring program.
Major activities
1. Developing the methodology of mentoring program delivery;
2. Development of the mentors’ training program;
3. Selection and training of mentors;
4. Selection of the mentees;
5. Delivery and monitoring of the mentoring program;
6. Revision / fine-tuning of the mentoring program based on the experience gained during delivery and monitoring.
Outputs
1. Methodology of the mentoring program delivery;
2. Mentors’ training program;
3. Curriculum and toolkit of the mentoring program;
4. Case studies about the mentees.
