Treasure Diversity

The Treasure Diversity project was implemented in partnership with the Ethnocultural Diversity Resource Center.

Donor: EU Phare

Duration: 2006-7 (12 months)

Target groups: over 800,000 individuals are exposed to the national campaign for improving the perception and appreciation of diversity. 1000 teachers and about 25,000 students in 60 schools benefit of the multicultural education kit.

Goals and objectives: The project raised awareness of the general public about the ethnocultural diversity in Romania and contributed to a better understanding of the multicultural values. „Treasure Diversity” consisted of a media campaign and an educational component which addresses gymnasium and secondary school pupils and teachers.

Type of activities targeting the education sector included the development of a multicultural kit consisting of a multicultural wall calendar, a teachers’ guide and a series of demonstrative workshops regarding the use of these materials. The "Multicultural calendar” increased the qualitative impact of the campaign, adding a learning component. The multicultural calendar supports the teachers to create values and attitudes through lessons. Teachers may use the calendar set in different disciplines, depending on the profile of the persons presented in the calendar and depending on the selected quotes and images. So as to make teachers and students sensitive in respect to the campaign theme and modalities to use the multicultural calendar in teaching, didactical workshops take place. In order to further support the teachers, a methodological guide was published.
The ideas envisaged within the educational kit are: adapting the teaching methods so as to respond to students’ diversity, underlining values and attitudes that may be created within a specific lesson or discipline, raising awareness on considering diversity as a natural resource of a community.

Deliverables: multicultural education kit (calendar and guidebook), training for over 1000 teachers in 7 counties of Romania.
