Promoting authentic assessment in the Romanian in-service teacher training system

The project Promoting authentic assessment in the Romanian in-service teacher training system is implemented by the Romanian RWCT Association as part of its effort to promote successful practice-grounded policies in the Romanian in-service teacher training system.

Duration: 1 January – 30 June, 2010
 
Target groups:
  • the Romanian National Center for Teachers’ In-Service Training (CNFP);
  • A total of at least 50 in-service teacher training providers;
  • At least 10 teachers, members of the Romanian RWCT Association;
  • At least 250 students (of the aforementioned 10 teachers);
  • At least 20 trainers, members of the RWCT Association;
  • At least 10 member organizations of the RWCT International Consortium.
 
Goals and objectives:
The goal of the project is to promote an innovative assessment policy in the Romanian in-service teacher training system. The objective of the project is to make policy recommendations to the Romanian National Center for Teachers’ In-Service Training based on a thorough analysis of the current situation in the field of assessment of teachers’ competences targeted in accredited training programs, as well as the findings from testing an innovative approach based on action research.
 
Types of activities: consultation with stakeholders; analysis of the current situation; report writing; training for teachers to conduct action-research; development of policy paper; dissemination of results.
 
Deliverables and outcomes:
  • a report presenting the current state of affairs in assessing teachers’ competences upon completion of accredited in-service teacher training courses;
  • a set of findings from piloting an innovative approach to authentic assessment of teachers’ competences upon completing a training program in Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking (RWCT);
  • a set of policy recommendations concerning the authentic assessment of teachers’ competences upon completion of an accredited in-service training program, to be presented to the Romanian National Center for Teachers’ In-Service Training;
  • a guidebook for in-service teacher training program providers on how to build a coherent authentic assessment approach into their training programs.
